Why a primer is a staple in any make-up collection

Flawless skin, fresh complexion – ideally all day long! Your make-up might look perfect first thing in the morning, but it can quickly lose its glow as the day progresses. Powder, rouge and other products can get into little wrinkles and make your face appear creased and tired. This is where primer comes into play. You apply it on top of your skincare products and in doing so let it take on several roles at once:

  • Refined complexion: primer makes enlarged pores smaller.
  • Improved hold: make-up and decorative cosmetics look better for longer.
  • Even colour: unwanted redness and dark circles can be concealed using a pigmented primer.
  • Mattifying effect: with oily skin, a make-up primer acts like a sponge and prevents unwanted shininess.
  • Glowing complexion: special pigments reflect the light and ensure a natural glow.
  • Moisturising: primers for dry skin give the skin extra hydration so that you look fresh all day long.

Make-up primers are available for every skin type. They boast a light texture which is easy to apply and blends with the contours. An extra portion of hydration protects the skin from drying out underneath the foundation. So there is not reason to not use a primer in future.

While a make-up primer is applied to your whole face, the eyeshadow primer is just used on the eyelid. Applied with your finger, it intensifies the colour and improves the coverage. It also prevents the eyeshadow from settling in the crease of your eyelid during the course of the day.

A primer for dry skin hydrates your face. This makes the skin cells fuller, smooths out small wrinkles and makes large pores smaller. It acts like an airbrush. Because now the subsequent foundation can be applied so easily. Little flakes of skin or uneven areas are a thing of the past.

Sometimes the face also needs a tweak of colour to make the complexion look even. CC primers work with colour pigments. In this way, redness can be balanced out by a greenish tone. Pink in the primer can counteract dark circles from tiredness. Yellow pigments reduced dark bags under the eyes.

How to use make-up primer properly

First clean your face with a product of your choice. Then apply a regular day cream or sun cream. Leave your skin for 5–10 minutes to let it absorb everything. This ensures that the make-up primer does not mix with the other products and the result is smoother and more even. Now apply the primer to your entire face.

To do so, use your fingers or a sponge. Small circular motions help ensure that you distribute the product well. Make sure not to put on too much. Make-up primers are usually very economical. No apply your foundation as usual.
