Loris Azzaro was born in Tunis to Sicilian parents in 1933. He spent his childhood there, surrounded by sun, sea, bright colours and the Mediterranean fragrances that make Azzaro perfume so distinctive.

In 1962, Azzaro left his homeland for Paris, where he soon made a name for himself as a designer. By 1968 he was designing glamorous gowns for the crème de la crème of French society. He was famous for his beautiful beadwork and plunging necklines, as well as his chain details on shirts and dresses. His clients include Nicole Kidman, Marion Cotillard and Kate Winslet, as well as other Hollywood stars such as Sophia Loren, Raquel Welch and Claudia Cardinale.
