5 things you should know about sun protection factor (SPF)

The amount counts with SPFIf you apply too little sunscreen, you won’t achieve the SPF stated on the product. For the face and neck you need around one teaspoon for reliable protection against UV rays.Only the highest SPF countsYou can’t add up your SPFs If you apply a cream with SPF 15 and make-up with SPF 20, you don’t get more protection. Only the higher SPF counts – so it’s best to always use products with SPF 30 or 50.Broad spectrum SPF is a mustMake sure you choose products with broad spectrum SPF because they’ll protect you from both UVB and UVA rays. It’s the only way to effectively screen against sunburn and premature skin ageing.

So always reapply sunscreen every two hours.

Essential ingredients for your summer skin care routine

Sun, sweat, salt water, chlorine – summer takes a toll on your skin. When it comes to to your morning beauty routine, it’s best to layer fewer products and use the right active ingredients for targeted care! A hyaluronic acid serum provides intense hydration and makes the skin feel plumper and firmer. Niacinamide has a regulating effect on oily skin and enlarged pores. It also strengthens the skin barrier. Gel creams refresh without feeling too heavy on the skin. And remember: always finish up by applying sunscreen to protect your skin against UV rays and prevent premature ageing.

Treat your skin to soothing ingredients such as aloe vera or panthenol in the evening. Take care with retinol and fruit acids though because they increase the skin’s sensitivity to sunlight. It’s best to only use them in the evening and in combination with daily UV protection.
