The file has two differently coated sides on a sturdy backing material, each of which fulfils a specific purpose in nail care. While the coarse grit is used to shorten the nails efficiently and give them the desired basic contour, the finer side ensures the perfect finish to the filing process. Unevenness on the nail edges can be gently smoothed with the fine side, which can minimise subsequent tearing of the nails.
