There are two tricks you can use to maximise the burning time of the candle. Firstly, do not extinguish the candle after the first lighting until all the wax in the top layer has become liquid. Secondly, regularly cut the wick back to a length of about half a centimetre. Scented candles are very easy to use, but a few factors greatly improve the burning behaviour and safety. Always place the scented candle on an even surface in a windless place and away from flammable materials. Before lighting, you should also shorten the wick to around 5 mm. To avoid tunnelling, leave the scented candle burning for at least as long as it takes for the top layer of wax to melt completely. This can take around two hours. However, you should not exceed a burning time of four hours at a time. For optimum burning quality, you should always extinguish the candle with a candle snuffer.
