A multifaceted interpretation of the theme of leather is at the centre of Étui Noir. Perfumer Mathieu Nardin's creation explores the different textures of this material, from smooth lacquer to soft suede. The opening is a fresh combination of bergamot and mandarin, which creates a bright contrast to the deeper notes. The powdery note of iris unfolds in the heart, accompanied by the balsamic spiciness of incense. These floral and resinous accords soften the intensity of the leather and lend the composition a supple depth. Earthy vetiver in the base emphasises the woody character and provides stability. The name is reminiscent of a familiar leather case, symbolising the intimate aura of the fragrance. The eau de parfum is packaged in a rectangular glass bottle, the front of which is decorated with stylised floral illustrations. The formulation complies with the principles of clean beauty and is vegan.
