More than just colours: Why was Pride Month created?

Pride Month isn’t just about colourful parades and festivals. It’s a month dedicated to the celebration and commemoration of the diverse LGBTQIA+ community while drawing attention to the ongoing pursuit of equality and acceptance. The rainbow flag was designed to reflect that diversity. Its colours represent the different aspects of love and inclusion and they are reflected in many Pride Month outfits and make-up looks.

Beyond the rainbow: What does LGBTQIA+ mean?

The letters LGBTQIA+ represent different gender identities and sexual orientations. The individual letters stand for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transsexual, queer, intersexual and asexual people. The plus (+) sign at the end signifies all gender identities and sexual orientations that are not specifically covered by the other initials, such as pansexuality.

Dare to show your true colour

It is important for everyone to have the freedom to express their true selves without fear of discrimination. You don’t have to identify as LGBTQIA+ to attend Pride events. Everyone is welcome to show their support. You can use bold rainbow colours or subtle accents to underline your personality with make-up.
