The story behind the sunscreen by PIZ-BUIN

The inspiration for the first sunscreen product by PIZ BUIN was a summer walk on the eponymous mountain on the border between Austria and Switzerland. In 1938 there was still insufficient sun protection available, so Franz Greiter, a young chemistry student and mountaineer, got sunburnt on the trip. Years later, this prompted him to develop the first sunscreen for alpinists.

In collaboration with his wife Marga, a qualified beautician, from 1946 onwards Greiter marketed the so-called glacier cream under the brand name PIZ BUIN, whose tried-and-trusted formula the inventors continue to develop to this day. Thanks to their shared knowledge in the areas of cosmetics and chemistry, they created numerous innovative cosmetics, including various PIZ BUIN sun creams, fluids, sprays, self-tanners and after-sun products.
